The event “From the UNESCO Grand Project to the Management Plan: the activities of the Municipality” was held in the Church of Santa Maria della Colonna in Via Tribunali 282, promoted by the Municipality of Naples.

The meeting was opened by the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, and moderated by the Chief of Staff, Maria Grazia Falciatore.

Speakers included: Deputy Mayor Laura Lieto; Campania Regional Councilor for Urban Planning Bruno Discepolo; Director General of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape Luigi La Rocca; Director of the UNESCO Service of the Ministry of Culture, Mariassunta Peci; Regional Director of Campania of the State Property Agency, Mario Parlagreco; President of the UNESCO Observatory, Gennaro Rispoli; President of the Urban Planning Commission of the Municipality of Naples, Massimo Pepe; Elisabetta Moro from the Department of Education, Psychology and Communication Sciences at the “Suor Orsola Benincasa” University; the Vice President of L’Altra Napoli EF, Antonio Roberto Lucidi; the Advisor to the Minister of Culture, Luciano Schifone.

Panels were displayed with architectural drawings and photos of the current state and various stages of work on the UNESCO projects in Naples.

The Great Project for the Historic Center of Naples consists of 27 interventions for a total amount of €82.5 million.

After a long period of start-up and development of the Grand Project, linked above all to the complexity of the operation involving various actors such as the Campania Region, the Municipality of Naples, the Superintendency, Curia, and ASL, the current administration has given a significant boost to the progress of some interventions/construction sites that had been blocked for years, such as Castel Capuano, where work was suspended on July 24, 2019, and resumed on January 19, 2023, and the Girolamini Complex, where work was suspended on October 31, 2018, and resumed on January 24, 2022. Both projects are expected to be completed by 2024.

Following serious breaches of contractual obligations by the successful bidder, the contract for the design and execution of works relating to the San Paolo Maggiore Complex was terminated. Total cost €2,962,014.58.
