A prime example of Neapolitan Renaissance architecture, the Pontano Chapel was modeled after Vitruvian temple designs. The chapel dates back to 1492 and was commissioned by Giovanni Pontano, humanist and secretary to Ferrante I of Aragon, it commemorates his wife Adriana Sassone. The rectangular-plan chapel sits on a podium and features fluted pilasters. On the piperno of the walls stands out the marble of the portals and inscriptions with moral and political mottos. The floor, contemporary to the building, is covered with majolica tiles depicting human figures and the coats of arms of Pontano and Sassone.
