The Dominican church (1294-1347) was situated in a dense medieval urban fabric, later transformed by post-Unification redevelopment. It was damaged by a flood (1343) and an earthquake (1456), then rebuilt by Fra’ Nuvolo in the mid-17th century. Its current appearance dates to after 1755, when Giuseppe Astarita redesigned it with stucco decorations and altars in inlaid marble. The church still preserves its majolica-tiled dome and two piperno stone arches from restoration. The 16th-century convent was converted into a tobacco factory in 1809, and later assigned to the University in 1862.
