Built by Giuseppe Valeriani (1584-1601), the church stands in the Sanseverino Palace, reusing the diamond-point rustication (140), with stonemasons’ marks engraved on the piperno, according to medieval tradition. In 1695, the portal was enhanced with columns and angels on the tympanum. After the dome collapsed in the 1688 earthquake, it was replaced by the current bowl-shaped one in 1786. The interior, in the shape of a Greek cross, was enriched by Cosimo Fanzago (1639) and consolidated by Ferdinando Fuga (1771); it now houses works by important 17th- and 18th-century artists.
