Fontana della Sirena

Fontana della Sirena

Piazza Sannazzaro

Inaugurated in 1869 in the Station gardens and relocated here in 1924, this marble and bronze work is the result of a collaboration between Onofrio Buccini and Francesco Jerace. At the center of the composition emerges the Siren Parthenope, the mythological founder of the city, holding a lyre. Surrounding her are naturalistic and allegorical elements: a sea monster, a horse, a lion, and dolphins, which celebrate the deep historical bond between Naples and the sea.
