The complex was founded in the 8th century by nuns who fled from Byzantium with the relics of the saint and has been documented since 930. In 1009, it was connected to San Pantaleone by an elevated bridge, on which the bell tower was built in the 17th century. The church, with a single nave, was designed by Giovan Battista Cavagna and Giovanni Vincenzo Della Monica, and completed in 1580, featuring a sumptuous interior. The cloister, begun in 1572 by Della Monica, hosts citrus trees and a fountain with life-size sculptures of Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well (1733).
