Built on a hill outside the city walls, the church was founded in 1411 and is the most representative of the relations between the Aragonese and the Medici. In 1799, it was granted to the archconfraternity of the Lombards, from which it took the name of Sant’ Anna dei Lombardi. In the atrium is the tomb of architect Domenico Fontana (1627). Inside, which was damaged in 1943, notable features include: the Correale and Tolosa chapels, in the style of Giuliano da Maiano, and the Piccolomini Chapel, a replica of the one in the church of San Miniato al Monte; the Sacristy, frescoed by Giorgio Vasari (1544); and the Lamentation over the Dead Christ (1492).
