San Giovanni a Carbonara

San Giovanni a Carbonara

The church, built between 1343 and 1418 and expanded in the early 18th century, a period during which the double-flight staircase by Ferdinando Sanfelice was added, was damaged by bombings in 1943. Its history is closely linked to the Angevin dynasty. It houses the tomb monument of King Ladislaus—commissioned by his sister Joanna II (1428), his heir—the Caracciolo del Sole Chapel (1427) and the Caracciolo di Vico Chapel (1516). The external staircase provides access to the Church of the Consolation at Carbonara and the Chapel of Saint Monica.
