In 1585, Costanza del Carretto Doria, Princess of Sulmona, purchased the Orsini Palace and donated it to the Oratorians, who adapted it into a conservatory to shelter girls who were no longer virgins, in order to protect them from prostitution—an institution that was absent in Naples during the Counter-Reformation. The palace retains the interesting classicist portal from 1471. The church was set up in the courtyard and preserves on its ceiling the painting of the Madonna del Rifugio from the late 17th century, as well as two busts attributed to Pietro Ghetti from 1704-05.
