Sant’Angelo a Nilo

Sant’Angelo a Nilo

Founded in 1385, it has the appearance given to it by Arcangelo Guglielmelli’s intervention in 1709. It is also known as the Brancaccio Chapel, named after the family that commissioned its construction. The name refers to the Hellenistic statue of the Nile, found in the nearby square of the same name and now displayed in Largo Corpo di Napoli. Inside, you can find the tomb of Cardinal Rinaldo Brancaccio (1426-28), created in Pisa by Donatello, Michelozzo, and Pagno di Lapo, which highlights the transition from Gothic forms to modern ones.
